Olive D'Cruz, an 88-year-old fitness enthusiast, maintains an impressive four-times-weekly exercise routine at Vale Farm Leisure Centre, proving that age shouldn't limit an active lifestyle.

As one of the centre's longest-standing members for over two decades, Olive participates in consecutive fitness classes, including body conditioning, yoga, and stretching exercises, despite having Rheumatoid arthritis.

"My routine has kept me active for many years. I thoroughly enjoy it – the physical aspect, but also coming along to socialise and meet my friends. It's good for me," says Olive. She emphasizes the mental benefits, noting that staying active keeps her brain sharp and engaged.

Her workout routine combines:

  • Body conditioning for total body workout
  • Cardiovascular training
  • Resistance exercises
  • Functional training
  • Yoga for flexibility
  • Stretching for improved joint mobility

Zak Melaini, Fitness Manager at Vale Farm, praises Olive's dedication: "We see Olive here rain or shine, and she's a perfect example of how the right support can transform someone's fitness at any age."

Olive's inspirational story is part of the 'Age is Just a Number' campaign, which promotes active lifestyles among seniors. The initiative offers specially designed activities for older adults across more than 230 centers nationwide, encouraging seniors to embrace new physical activities and maintain regular exercise routines.

Her message to others is empowering: "If I can do it, you can do it. You must not think negative!"
