Triplegic Lawyer Completes 10km Swim Challenge While Testing New Pool Access Technology in London
A triplegic solicitor has completed a remarkable 10km swimming challenge while introducing new accessibility technology at the London Aquatics Centre. Justen Bersin-Taylor, who lost full use of three limbs following a road collision, raised over £2,000 for Access Adventures charity during his month-long challenge.

During the event, Bersin-Taylor became the first person to use the new Poolpod 3.0, a submersible platform lift designed for swimmers with limited mobility. This installation at the London Aquatics Centre marks the first time the diving pool has been made accessible via a Poolpod, significantly expanding inclusive swimming opportunities at the venue.
"It seems like a pretty simple feat until you realise I only have one fully functioning limb to pull the rest of me through the water," Bersin-Taylor explained. The former adventure sports enthusiast completed nine kilometers in incremental sessions throughout January before finishing the final kilometer on January 30th.
The Poolpod 3.0 represents a significant advancement in accessibility technology, featuring user-operated controls that enhance independence for disabled swimmers. This upgrade is part of Everyone Active's ongoing commitment to improving accessibility at the London Aquatics Centre.
Beyond swimming, Bersin-Taylor's rehabilitation journey includes regular gym sessions and adaptive scuba diving with Ocean Turtle Diving. As a qualified PADI Divemaster, he uses a single-handed Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) for underwater mobility, demonstrating how adaptive sports can help overcome physical limitations.
The success of this initiative showcases the importance of accessible sporting facilities and adaptive sports programs in enabling individuals with disabilities to pursue active lifestyles and athletic achievements.
