Hitchin Outdoor Pool Launches Cold Water Swimming in New Pilot Programme
Hitchin's outdoor swimming pool is launching cold water swimming sessions starting May 10, two weeks before its regular seasonal opening. The initiative responds to strong community interest, offering multiple daily time slots from morning to evening.
The pool will maintain temperatures above 15 degrees Celsius initially, with heating systems activated mid-May to prepare for the regular season opening on May 24.

The program has received strong support from experienced staff members and local cold water swimming enthusiasts. Clair Calver, a swimming instructor with 22 years of experience, emphasizes the health benefits, noting she "hasn't had a cold in two years" since starting cold water swimming.
Sarah Kingsley, Director of Environment at North Herts Council, highlights this initiative as an opportunity for the local community to experience cold water swimming safely and conveniently.
The facility is managed by Everyone Active in partnership with North Herts Council. Both Hitchin and Letchworth lidos, closed since September 2024 for winter maintenance, will resume regular operations from May 24.
