Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington visited Uttoxeter Leisure Centre to present swimming instructor Jayne Egerton with the prestigious Swim Teacher of the Year Award, chosen from over 3,000 swim teachers across Everyone Active's nationwide facilities.

Jayne, who has been teaching at the centre since 2016, was recognized for her exceptional dedication to providing inclusive, dynamic, and safe swimming lessons. Her commitment extends to teaching students of all ages and abilities, including those with learning and physical disabilities.

"One of Jayne's biggest passions is that she wants anyone of any age to be able to swim," said Ceri Stalker, Swim Manager at Uttoxeter Leisure Centre. "She is one of the most kind and caring members of the swim team who always helps whenever she can."

Adlington, a double gold medalist from Beijing 2008, emphasized the importance of swim teachers: "Learning to swim isn't just learning a life skill, it's developing these kids, giving them an education and building confidence – and it's the same in adults. It's so much more than just a skill or a medal, it really shows you who you are as a person."

Jayne's achievements include:

  • Teaching students with diverse abilities and needs
  • Providing private lessons for those requiring extra attention
  • Mentoring new team members with teaching techniques
  • Creating engaging and effective lesson plans
  • Maintaining high safety standards while making lessons enjoyable

The award demonstrates Uttoxeter Leisure Centre's commitment to providing high-quality swimming instruction and highlights the essential role of dedicated swim teachers in community health and safety.
